The BenStop GP 20/40 Container Door Brace has been named one of four finalists in the 2025 WA Work Health and Safety Excellence Awards, under the category Work Health and Safety Invention of the Year.
This announcement represents an exciting new chapter for BenStop. Over the past year, Ben and his team have worked tirelessly to shine a light on a hidden workplace hazard and to provide industries with a practical, effective solution.
The GP 20/40 Container Door Brace has been developed specifically to stabilise general purpose shipping container doors, giving workers a controlled and secure entry and exit point to their workplace. While their initial focus was on mining operations, the brace has quickly attracted interest from a wide range of industries, from logistics and agriculture to construction.
Being named a finalist is about more than recognition—it reflects the growing understanding across worksites that uncontrolled container door movement is a serious safety issue that requires a purpose-built solution.
BenStop made its public debut at AIMEX in Adelaide on September 23, 2025, where they presented the door brace to safety professionals, industry leaders, and businesses from across Australia.
“This [was] our first opportunity to show the brace in action at a national event,” says co-founder Lauren Portman. “It [was] a chance to connect directly with the people who face this risk every day and to share how this simple innovation can make a real difference.”
For BenStop, being shortlisted for Work Health and Safety Invention of the Year is a milestone that reflects both progress and potential. It’s a moment to celebrate how far they’ve come, while also reinforcing their mission to simplify safety and protect workers.
“At BenStop, safety isn’t just what we do—it’s why we do it,” the company said.
