Having helped heavy industry personnel across Australia and the world finish every shift safely with their innovative range of products and equipment since 2011, Nivek Industries continues to make the mining industry a less hazardous and accessible workplace for everyone.
When the company’s founder, Kevin Cant, narrowly escaped serious injury during a routine bulldozer belly plate removal back in 2008, he decided enough was enough – it was time to put a stop to the industry’s high injury and fatality rate.
Born out of a need to mitigate the dangers of maintenance work, Nivek has developed a range of revolutionary products that have improved the health, safety and well-being of fitters working in high-risk environments.
From their debut product TED, the world’s first remote-controlled scissor lift designed to take the weight out of heavy parts and equipment and remove suspended load hazards, to the aptly named Big TED, the LA40, and an ever expanding range of attachments, Nivek continues to focus on the wellbeing of their customers and the future possibilities and capabilities of their unique and tailor-made products.
“For the company’s next phase, we’ll be looking to increase the functionality and versatility of our attachment ranges,” Nivek general manager Derrick Cant said.
“Essentially, our products are a tracked power unit, with unique attachments that deliver true value. The attachment options are endless, and we try to carry that across for all our products.”
With a passion for ensuring and maintaining the safety of those who use their products, Nivek also provides after-sales support, servicing and even custom solutions for all their customers.
“We design and manufacture all our products,” Cant said. “The benefit of that is, if a customer does have an idea or an application they want one of our products to be used for, we can design and build a custom attachment for them in house. We would also certify the attachment for use and avoid any issues with warranty or IP related issues.”
Along with drastically improving the safety of the heavy industry sector, Nivek’s range has also had a significant impact on the equality of the workforce.
With fitter positions being historically male-dominated due to the heavy nature of the equipment, parts and even tools used, Nivek’s innovative designs are removing the need for high-strength capabilities. As a result, Nivek is helping facilitate the accessibility of the industry to not only more females, but personnel of all different body types.
“When you consider the tools themselves weigh 30–40kg just to do up a nut or a bolt, our equipment has taken the weight out of the job – that physical requirement has been eliminated.”
