A fire at the Chemical Grade Plant 3 (CGP3) facility at the Greenbushes lithium operation in Western Australia is under investigation, with operator Talison Lithium assessing the extent of the damage and any required repairs.
IGO, which holds an indirect interest in the operation through its lithium joint venture with Tianqi Lithium Corporation, confirmed the incident occurred on June 9.
According to its ASX statement, the fire was extinguished, and no injuries were reported.
Talison has commenced a full investigation into the cause of the incident and is assessing the impact on the recently commissioned processing facility.
Despite the fire, IGO said production guidance for the Greenbushes operation remains unchanged, with spodumene concentrate output still expected to reach between 1.375 million and 1.425 million tonnes for the 2025–26 financial year.
Operations at Chemical Grade Plant 1 (CGP1) and Chemical Grade Plant 2 (CGP2) were also not affected by the incident.
Located about 250km south of Perth, Greenbushes is one of the world’s largest and highest-grade hard rock lithium operations. The mine is operated by Talison Lithium, which is jointly owned by Tianqi Lithium Energy Australia (TLEA) and Albemarle Corporation.
TLEA, a joint venture established in 2021 between Tianqi Lithium Corporation (51 per cent) and IGO (49 per cent), holds a 51 per cent stake in Talison.
CGP3 is the newest processing facility at Greenbushes and began commissioning in late 2025, processing its first ore in December. The plant is expected to process 2.4 million tonnes of ore annually and produce up to 500,000 tonnes of lithium mineral concentrate per year.
