Hexagon protects miners with updated system

Hexagon collision avoidance system

Hexagon Mining has released Version 10 of the HxGN MineProtect Collision Avoidance System – known simply as CAS 10 – to protect drivers and equipment with 360-degree operator awareness for vehicles, assets and operators in open-pit mines.

The significantly improved version of its collision avoidance system has consolidated powerful technology into just two hardware components: a smart antenna and a five-inch LCD display.

Besides collision avoidance, MineProtect integrates systems for operator alertness, object detection, personal protection and vehicle intervention by sharing the same hardware.

Hexagon Mining division product manager Barbara Hirtz said CAS 10 is next-generation technology reflecting the culmination of Hexagon’s push to empower digital transformation by consolidating and connecting sensors and software, infield apps and cloudware.

“One multi-functional smart antenna not only incorporates CAS, but is the hub supporting systems for operator alertness, fleet management and operator assist, among other solutions,” Hirtz said.

“In a single display, the software integrates information from CAS, radars and HxGN MineProtect Personal Alert, the industry’s first accident-avoidance device worn by field personnel using the reliability and precision-location technology.

“CAS 10 is a landmark enabler for next-generation autonomy, offering mines a uniquely intelligent approach. Most importantly, everyone gets home safely.”

The smart antenna integrates GPS, RF, Wi-Fi, LTE and ultra-wide band time of flight technology and the in-cabin, touch-screen display features modern UI/UX consistent with Hexagon’s other onboard solutions.

This creates a better driving experience, reduced deployment and training time, reduced supply chain complexity and increased operator adoption.

CAS connects to a web-based reporting and analytics platform that adds a powerful layer of safety to MineProtect.

It monitors and controls critical risk events by connecting data sources via dashboards, visualising all aspects of CAS and making safety preventive rather
