High-risk licence now available digitally

Workers operating machinery or undertaking rigging are set to benefit from the New South Wales Government’s new digital measure for high-risk work licence applications.

High-risk workers can now apply for the certification digitally through Service NSW – submitting their licence application online via the website and then visiting their nearest Service NSW centre if they require a photo.

The new online platform replaces legacy technology, strengthens security, and delivers a faster, more streamlined digital experience for customers.

A high-risk work licence must be renewed every five years and is required by SafeWork NSW to operate machinery, work with scaffolding and carry out rigging.

NSW Work Health and Safety Minister Sophie Cotsis said holders of these licences undertake essential work across various sites, making the introduction of an efficient application process also vital.

“High-risk work licence holders undertake crucial work in NSW operating cranes, forklifts, hoists and rigs,” she said.

“Digitising this process will save workers money and time and should benefit around 425,000 current … holders in NSW.”

Between 75,000 and 100,000 high-risk work licence transactions are conducted every year in NSW.

According to NSW Customer Service and Digital Government Minister Jihad Dib, all those transactions will be made easier following digitisation.

“This is another exciting step forward for the future of licencing in NSW by digitising and simplifying the process for people applying for a high-risk work licence,” he said.

“The application and renewal process was previously time consuming and complex for people to complete. Speeding up the renewal process with this digital solution lets workers get on with the job of keeping NSW moving.

“We are looking at a wide range of licences to improve the way they are used and make them more secure as part of modernising our licensing platforms to better serve communities.”

Customers can also add their digital high-risk work licence to the wallet in their Service NSW app, which is available for all current licence holders with a MyServiceNSW account.
