How Perenti is putting safety first across its operations

Perenti

Mining services giant Perenti has spent the first half of the 2024–25 financial year (H1 FY25) implementing a range of safety initiatives.

Line leaders across Perenti operations increased critical control system checks by 23 per cent across H1 and the company installed multiple new safety systems or begun safety system trials.

These include rolling out more fatigue monitoring systems across the company’s fleet and implementing the real-time atmospheric monitoring of underground gases for AngloGold Ashanti’s Sunrise Dam near Kalgoorlie in Western Australia.

Perenti also implemented the trial of an automated rod handler truck with drilling services.

“Our most important responsibility is to ensure the safety of our people,” Perenti said in its H1 report.

“The implementation of safety initiatives continued during the first half of FY25 to build a culture of safety and respect.”

According to Perenti, dedicated safety coaches are now working in the field alongside frontline leaders across all regions in contract mining to support them to make decisions that prioritise safety.

“Beyond these initiatives we continue to progress our assurance activities, training and development of our people and working closely with our clients,” the company said.

“Improving safety systems to deliver a safer workplace is an ongoing task and we are applying a continual learning approach across the group.

“The safety of our people remains our primary focus, and we continue to drive towards our goal of nil adverse physical and psychological life-changing events.”

Looking ahead, Perenti’s current work in hand amounts to $4.7 billion and the team has visibility on a pipeline of potential work totalling $17.1 billion.

With over 10,000 employees over more than 100 projects, levelling up its safety commitment goes a long way to protecting many of the mining industry’s front-line workers.
