National WHS expert sourcing tool goes live

mine safety management system, NSW compliance

An new interactive webpage is aiming to connect workplaces with work health and safety (WHS) professionals like never before.

The sourcing and engaging WHS professionals webpage explains the roles of different WHS professionals, including ergonomists, occupational hygienists and generalists.

Workplaces will be able to identify the kind of WHS professional they need and follow links to local, qualified and certified experts.

The tool was developed between SafeWork SA and national peak bodies the Australian Institute of Health and Safety (AIHS), the Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists (AIOH) and the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society of Australia (HFESA).

“Collaboration is key to making positive impacts on health and safety and I’m delighted to host this new, user-friendly, resource, which is the first of its type in Australia,” SafeWork SA executive director Glenn Farrell said.

“It has never been easier for businesses to identify and contact certified professionals who can help them tackle current and emerging WHS issues.”

Although located on the SafeWork SA website, the information and contacts are national.

“This resource will raise awareness of the high quality specialist advice WHS professionals can provide, particularly amongst small and medium size businesses,” AIOH president Jeremy Trotman said.

The page will support new and established businesses seeking to make improvements or address emerging issues by making it easy for them to identify the services they need and how to access them.

These services can range from establishing systems and health and safety plans, to improving the way people use equipment.

“We are pleased to work with regulators and other WHS professional bodies to collectively raise the standard of advice to industry,” HFESA president Sharon Todd said.
