OZ Minerals tech allows for smarter human decisions

OZ Minerals has developed the Insights Hub technology to improve safety standards across its operations by bringing data from all assets into a single platform.

This provides scenario analysis information for employees to make accurate, data-driven decisions about safety.

Its introduction was one of OZ Minerals’ key safety changes last year, which helped contribute to the reduction of the total recordable injury frequency rate (TRIFR) from 6.27 in 2019 to 5.29 in 2020.

“We use data and technology for tactical decision making, repetitive work and to improve safety, allowing our people to focus on complex and innovative thinking,” OZ Minerals stated.

“To inform our safety choices and proactively identify material trends in 2020, OZ Minerals developed (this) Insights Hub.”

OZ Minerals also lifted its commitment to its employees’ mental health as they were going major changes to their everyday activities.

The company introduced workday reinvention and the Keil Centre resilience program at the Prominent Hill copper-gold mine in South Australia.

The program consists of workshops, seminars and personal development activities targeted at developing the habits that support resilience, according to the Keil Centre.

OZ Minerals also provided its Indigenous team members with additional access to peer support during the pandemic.

The company plans to refresh the Prominent Hill critical risk management safety program as it ramps underground mining rates up to 4-5 million tonnes per annum this year.
