Protection for a worthy cause

With its Black Dog range of PPE, Safety Mate has surpassed $1 million in donations to the Black Dog Institute (BDI), an important mental health research organisation.

Evidence shows that mental illness is now the leading cause of sickness absence and long-term work incapacity in Australia, and the construction industry has long been grappling with high rates of mental health issues.

“Understanding the link between mental health and workplace productivity, we’ve forged a meaningful partnership with BDI, a non-for-profit research institute that aims to create better mental health for all,” Safety Mate director Clint Tee told Safe to Work.

With every purchase of a Black Dog range product, Safety Mate donates a portion to BDI.

The range
The Black Dog Cut D safety glove is a super lightweight cut level D glove that offers consistent and high-quality cut resistance. Made from a nitrile coating, the glove is durable, breathable, and compatible with touchscreens. The product has a certified Made In Green label by Oeko-Tex.

This label signifies environmentally friendly manufacturing, social responsibility, safe work environments, and materials free from harmful substances. It ensures consumers that their products come from facilities that prioritise ecological and ethical standards.

The Black Dog Cut F glove offers a maximum cut level F protection, as well as flexible impact protection, making it suitable for a wide range of tough jobs. It also shares similar features as the Black Dog Cut D, including the Made In Green label.

The Skytec Black Dog 3030V is a P2 graded respirator, meaning it can protect workers against silicosis, harmful welding fumes, and similar respirable hazards.

“The Skytec 3030V provides a full foam face seal, providing unparalleled comfort and fit, making long hours of wear surprisingly comfortable,” Tee said.

“With adjustable head straps and the full foam face seal the Skytec 3030V adapts to every face shape, ensuring maximum protection and a perfect fit for anyone.”

The Stream Evo Black Dog safety glasses are high performance glasses with anti-scratch and anti-fog protection. The glasses feature a number of helpful safety features such as a UV400 rating, lateral protection, slim temples for comfort when worn with ear defenders, an adjustable anti-slip nose bridge, and TempFLEX temple tips for a comfortable and secure fit.

The glasses are also 100 per cent metal free for an extra layer of safety.

“Our ‘Black Dog’ product range is more than just personal protection – it’s a symbol of support and awareness for mental health,” Tee said.

“This initiative ensures that with every purchase of ‘Black Dog’ products, donations are channelled directly towards the Institute, bolstering efforts in diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mental illnesses.”
