The Queensland Mining Industry Health and Safety Conference (QMIHSC) has descended on the Gold Coast for four days of all things mine safety.
Now in its 35th year, the conference and exhibition’s theme ‘back to the future’ explores if the simplicity of the past can work in harmony with advancements in the present to safely navigate a complex and evolving future.
The conference has aimed to answer questions like: Have technology and futuristic methods simplified our industry for the positive, or introduced new risk? Will the removal of human interaction dilute our skill in safety and health risk identification? And, is there a place for the simpler processes of the past to co-exist with new technology and ways of work?
With a mix of keynote presentations, panel discussions, and an exhibition floor abuzz with the latest in mine safety innovation, the QMIHSC has something for everyone involved in the Australian mining sector.
Speakers have covered every aspect of mine safety from incident investigation to the collaboration between technology and workers.
Global mining equipment manufacturer Komatsu is in attendance, with an exhibition allowing show-goers to simulate the mining experience first-hand.
“We’re here again at the QMIHSC to showcase some of our technology, and learn what’s going on in the industry from a safety perspective,” Komatsu regional general manager Matt Reily told Safe to Work.
“We’ve got our latest remote fully compliant to AS5240 here and the training simulator to give people a drive.
“Same again as last year, all delegates have received a Komatsu ‘safety coin’ in their showbags and we encourage everyone to utilise this as a daily reminder to be safe.”
The 2024 QMIHSC finishes up on Wednesday August 20, don’t miss out on the last day of this year’s mine safety extravaganza.
