True North Copper (TNC) is on the lookout for new talent at its soon-to-open Cloncurry copper project (CCP) in north-west Queensland.
The company has launched a recruitment drive to support its path to first production at Cloncurry and is looking to appoint a significant number of personnel for the Great Australia Mine and Wallace North deposit by mid-October.
The company’s current workforce at the Great Australia Mine and Wallace North stands at almost 60 employees.
“TNC plans to grow this number significantly over the next month and beyond,” True North managing director Bevan Jones said.
“To support our ramp up at CCP and the future operations, we intend to recruit up to 100 people by the end of 2024.”
TNC will initially recruit people from local communities such as Cloncurry, but also intends to expand its search throughout Queensland to Cairns, Townsville and Brisbane.
“Over half of our current workforce are from Mt Isa and Cloncurry and we have arrangements in place for employees working in a FIFO arrangement,” Bevan said.

True North has achieved a lot to ensure it’s currently on track to become Australia’s next copper producer and critical metals supplier in the first quarter 2025.
Earlier this month, first oxide ore was delivered from the Wallace North deposit. The ore has been transported to the Great Australia Mine for crushing, with stacking on the leach pad set to commence in October.
Mining activities at Wallace North have also ramped up in line with the Cloncurry mine plan, with approximately 6000 tonnes of oxide ore mined and stockpiled at the site’s run-of-mine facility.
The Cloncurry restart is expected to generate free cash flow of approximately $200 million over its initial 4.6-year mine life, based on current copper prices.
