The Queensland Mines Inspectorate (QMI) has allowed Coronado Global Resources to restart all tyre and wheel rim fitting activities at the Curragh coal mine in Queensland.
The QMI was satisfied the operations could recommence safely after tyre and wheel rim fitting activities were halted at the mine following an incident in January.
It involved a fatal injury of a Thiess employee who was changing a tyre in the main workshop.
Operations were suspended for five days following the incident as the QMI and other authorities launched an incident investigation.
The QMI developed a return to work plan to ensure all future tyre work is completed in a safe manner.
“The company was supportive of the directive and all efforts to improve safety at its operations,” Coronado stated in a media release.
“Coronado continues to conduct its own investigation to understand the causes of the incident and continues to support the third-party reviews under way.”
