Have you been directly impacted by a work-related fatality or serious injury? Now is your chance to join the Queensland committee aiming to make a difference.
The Queensland Office of Industrial Relations is seeking applications for members for the new term of the Consultative Committee for Work-Related Fatalities and Serious Incidents.
The voluntary committee was established by legislation in 2017 and has become a vital platform for incorporating the voice of those with lived experience into government services in Queensland.
The committee aims to ensure the needs of families and seriously injured workers affected by work-related incidents are at the forefront of how government responds to the people directly impacted.
Appointments to the committee are for terms up to three years, and positions are now becoming available again.
Members play a pivotal role in providing advice and making recommendations about the information and support needs of affected people.
Those selected to join the committee will attend quarterly meetings and contribute to assigned tasks.
The committee has so far influenced access to freely available grief and trauma counselling, a comprehensive guide for families dealing with workplace fatalities and pro-bono legal support for coronial processes.
Members have also actively contributed to legislative reforms including those that led to the creation of an industrial manslaughter offence, and the establishment of the independent Work Health and Safety Prosecutor.
Queensland WorkSafe is calling on people to consider applying to become part of a “pioneering initiative”.
“We encourage people from all backgrounds located across Queensland, including culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, to consider applying for membership appointment,” WorkSafe said.
Applications can be submitted online and close Friday December 6 2024.
