Ready, set, mine: WA Mining 2025 takes over Perth

Thousands of mining professionals are ready to converge at the Perth Convention & Exhibition Centre as the WA Mining Conference & Exhibition (WA Mining) 2025 officially kicks off its biggest edition yet.

Anticipation is building across the sector for a two-day program packed with critical insights, technology showcases, and high-level discussions, all of which will be centred on the future of mining in Western Australia.

The event opens today at 10:10 am with a keynote from WA Mines and Petroleum Minister David Michael, who will speak on how the state is leading the world in responsible, tech-enabled mineral extraction.

From there, the main stage will dive into some of the industry’s most pressing issues and boldest opportunities.

Fortescue will lead one of the morning’s headline sessions, offering a detailed look at the company’s push to eliminate fossil fuels from its operations. The panel will explore how zero-emissions haulage and renewable energy are being deployed in real time to drive down emissions and transform site performance.

WA’s growing portfolio of critical minerals projects will also take the spotlight, with experts examining the state’s next wave of investment, infrastructure and strategic resource development.

In the afternoon, Tesla for Business’ James Middleton will explore the electrification of mine fleets, arguing the case for rapid decarbonisation through already-available vehicle and energy solutions.

A later panel on workforce safety will broaden the conversation, looking at how mental health, cultural inclusion and physical wellbeing are reshaping safety strategies across mining workplaces.

Later sessions will shift to innovation and ESG, with SRO Technology, accompanied by Newmont Australia and the Minerals Research Institute of WA among those discussing how collaboration, data and end-user insights are shaping better outcomes in both technology and sustainability.

The day will wrap up with a panel focused on unlocking productivity across mine sites using digital tools, workforce optimisation and smarter connectivity.

Networking will continue after hours with the WA Mining Welcome Drinks from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm, sponsored by SRO Technology. The event will provide an informal opportunity for delegates, exhibitors, and speakers to connect and reflect on the day’s discussions.

Alongside the sessions, attendees will also gain plenty from the exhibition floor which will feature more than 150 companies showcasing technologies and services across equipment, software, environmental management, automation, and process optimisation. Many exhibitors will conduct live demonstrations focused on real-world mining challenges.

Registration remains open, with free access to the exhibition floor and ticket upgrades available for those wishing to attend the full conference program and networking events.
