SICK launches network compatible safety control

SICK has officially unveiled Flexi Net, a high‑performance safety controller for modern, scalable machine architectures.

Flexi Net delivers performance up to PL e and supports up to 512 TÜV‑certified function blocks with a 4 ms cycle time – enabling fast, standard‑compliant safety engineering for machine builders.

For packaging lines and machine manufacturing, Flexi Net helps OEMs reduce engineering effort and accelerate commissioning through live diagnostics and configuration via the Safety Designer software. Safety Designer supports intuitive hardware configuration and drag‑and‑drop safety logic using certified function blocks, plus simulation for pre‑testing and automatically generated documentation to support verification.

Flexi Net is built for modular machines and connected production lines. The all‑in‑one main module includes 32 I/O, HTL interface support and a Smart Plug concept for configuration storage, and it connects up to 12 expansion modules to scale I/O as machines evolve. Flexi I/O expansion modules add additional safe inputs and outputs in a narrow 14 mm format.

For networked line architectures, Flexi Net supports safe communication between machines via EtherNet/IP CIP Safety connectivity and enables exchange of process data, diagnostics and events with an upper‑level PLC or HMI. An integrated display supports local setup functions and text‑based diagnostics.

“Packaging and machine manufacturers need safety systems that scale with modular designs while keeping commissioning and maintenance simple,” said Praveen Kannan, Senior Director, Focus Sales Asia Pacific. “Flexi Net addresses these requirements with a powerful all‑in‑one safety controller that simplifies machine design while enabling high-performance safety functions up to PL e / SIL 3.”
