The Mines Safety Roadshow, which focusses on promoting on-site risk awareness at mine sites, is again taking place across Western Australia this month.
Hosted by the WA Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety, the annual month-long series of roadshows has started in Kalgoorlie, before travelling across nine other Western Australian cities and towns.
The event will also visit Fortescue Metals Group’s Cloudbreak mine site on October 9.
A theme of ‘Building healthy and safe workplaces’ in 2019 will involve presentations and workshops on myths about noise, the power of hazard identification and learning from investigations.
The roadshow also showcases a new safety video on how workplace factors influence an incident, as well as information on the fly-in, fly-out mental health code of practice.
Western Australian Mines and Petroleum Minister Bill Johnston the roadshows were a great example of an ongoing commitment to improve mine safety and promote a healthy workplace culture across the state’s mining sector.
“These events educate employers and workers on how to better understand and identify hazards on site, and how to control these risks,” Johnston said.
