Australia’s respiratory protection standards are undergoing their most significant overhaul in decades – and the clock is ticking. With AS/NZS 1715 and 1716 set to be superseded by 2030, safety professionals, occupational hygienists and anyone responsible for selecting or specifying respiratory protective equipment need to understand what’s coming, and what it means for their workplace right now.
On July 7 2026, the Australian Institute of Health and Safety (AIHS) will host a one-hour webinar – Australia’s New Respiratory Protection Standards: What You Need to Know – presented by CleanSpace and featuring two of the most qualified people in Australia to explain the transition.
Meet the experts
Mark Reggers chairs the SF-010 Occupational Respiratory Protection Standards Committee — the national body steering the transition — and is an active contributor to the international ISO TC94 SC15 Respiratory Protection working groups. He also chairs RESP-FIT, the AIOH’s respiratory fit testing training and accreditation program. With more than two decades of experience in respiratory protection and a Master of Science in Occupational Hygiene Practice, Reggers is one of the country’s foremost authorities on where these standards are heading and why.
Peter Aspinall is a Certified Occupational Hygienist with 20+ years of practical experience across mining, oil and gas, defence, construction and manufacturing. He brings the field-level clarity that turns complex regulatory language into actionable guidance — across all levels of an organisation.
Together, they’ll cut through the complexity of the new AS/NZS ISO classification system, covering protection classes, work rates and filtration, and give attendees a clear picture of what’s changing, what isn’t, and what to do about it.
Attendees will be able to explain why Australian standards are changing and what’s driving the shift to AS/NZS ISO; describe the key features of the new classification system; identify what changes for workplaces — and what can wait; and access the tools and resources available to support a smooth transition.
