Women in Industry announces 2021 ambassador, sponsor

Women in Industry is thrilled to introduce its 2021 ambassador, ifm efector marketing manager, Rachael Ashfield.

Ashfield has been progressing her career steadily, moving from executive assistant to marketing assistant, and now leading the department.

In 2020, Rachael was nominated by her colleagues for the Business Development Success of the Year category, and subsequently won.

“The nomination itself was extraordinary, and then to reach the list of finalists and subsequently win the award was a personal and career defining highlight,” Ashfield said.

“I was honoured that my colleagues felt so highly about my efforts.”

In her role as Ambassador, Ashfield will be encouraging women from across the manufacturing, mining, engineering, transport, waste management and infrastructure sectors to nominate for the 2021 Women in Industry Awards.

“Women bring alternative viewpoints and experiences to a business which often fosters creativity and change. Yet the career pathway for women can be quite challenging, especially in an industry that is not highly represented by women,” Ashfield said.

“The Women in Industry Awards give you an opportunity to highlight key aspects and career defining moments of your many years of success and dedication.”

Women in Industry has also welcome Weir Minerals as a sponsor for the 2021 awards.

The company will sponsor the Excellence in Mining category.

Weir Minerals is a global leader in the provision of mill circuit technology and services, as well as the market leader in slurry handling equipment and associated aftermarket support for abrasive high wear applications.

Its differentiated technology is used in mining, oil and gas and general industrial markets around the world.

“We are very excited and proud to be supporting the Women in Industry’s Excellence in Mining category, highlighting inspirational female leaders, pioneering initiatives and exceptional talent of today and tomorrow,” says Weir Minerals regional strategy director APAC, Melissa Davison.

“We believe it aligns with Weir’s own global inclusion and diversity agenda to ensure we develop a culture where everyone’s voice is heard, and where we care for, respect and encourage each other, helping to champion gender equality within our business and our industry.”

In 2020, Weir Minerals’ regional managing director APAC, Terese Withington, was a finalist for the Prospect Awards’ Safety Advocacy Award.

As a leader instrumental in leading numerous safety initiatives across Australia, the Pacific, Southeast Asia, China and India, Withington halved injuries in the past year.

In recognition of her efforts, she was awarded with the Safety Advocacy Award in the 2020 Prospect Awards, which acknowledged outstanding achievements from across the mining and minerals processing sector.
